Partner's passion to help prostate cancer research and men's health

“Medical research is unfortunately expensive to conduct but it can and does lead to improved treatment options that save lives or give patients more time with those they love. That’s why campaigns like MANDATE and support of organisations like AVC are so important and also why I can’t thank them enough.”

Solutions that will give us all more time with the men in our lives who have unfortunately been diagnosed with prostate cancer are a significant step closer thanks to Australian Venue Co. (AVC) and their support of the MANDATE men’s health campaign.

MANDATE is a men’s health initiative of the PA Research Foundation which raises funds for men’s health and prostate cancer research at the PA Hospital campus. AVC has supported the cause for over a decade and this year raised $136,903 through June and July.

Eight-five venues across Queensland helped raise the funds with AVC staff getting creative to inspire their customers to give with everything from head shaves, car and golf days, drag bingo, trivia nights, raffles and more being staged.

This year’s fundraising means AVC communities throughout the Sunshine State have now raised more than $1.5 million for men’s health research projects.

Fundraising in 2023 was led by the Mango Hill Tavern, raising an amazing $9,318. Their efforts were led by staff members Josh, Carissa and Cheryl with the money from Cheryl’s head shave, her second head shave in a row for the cause and lots of different raffles.

“Medical research is unfortunately expensive to conduct but it can and does lead to improved treatment options that save lives or give patients more time with those they love. That’s why campaigns like MANDATE and support of organisations like AVC are so important and also why I can’t thank them enough,” PA Research Foundation Chief Executive Officer Damian Topp said.

“I also want to give a special thank you to Dave Matthews for organising another successful MANDATE Golf Day at Gainsborough Greens Golf Club, it’s always one of the highlights of the campaign each year and an important day on our calendar.

“Prostate cancer is now the most commonly diagnosed form of cancer in Australia, even overtaking breast cancer. Research by the likes of Professor Colleen Nelson and her team at the PA Campus based Australiasian Prostate Cancer Research Centre Queensland will be boosted by the efforts of AVC and the kindness of their customers, as will research projects into other conditions which adversely affect the men in our lives.

“Again we offer them our gratitude for their efforts and commitment.”
