The second annual MANDATE Golf Day took place on Wednesday July 24 in support of lifesaving prostate cancer research at the PA Hospital Campus. The event saw 136 golfers in teams of four hit the course at Gainsborough Greens Golf Club on a beautiful, crystal-clear winter morning.
The event took place during the MANDATE campaign in partnership with Australian Venue Co, which sees 90 venues hold fundraising events and initiatives throughout the months of June and July to help raise awareness for men's health issues and raise funds for prostate cancer research.
The golfers set out on the green on the Gold Coast to cover the 18-hole course over five hours, with each hole generously sponsored by businesses within the community. The players enjoyed stops along the way at the Jack Daniels and Ginger Beer tasting and The Treasury Wines tasting.
The morning was full of comradery, with all teams banding together, united by the common goal to raise funds for prostate cancer research. The St George team took out first place and Rowan, the team captain, said they will be back in 2020 to defend their title.
The event was capped off with a buffet lunch, followed by a raffle with amazing prizes up for grabs, donated from generous sponsors within the community.
PA Research Foundation CEO, Damian Topp shared a few brief words, thanking AVC for their pivotal role in starting a broader conversation about men's health over the last year through the campaign.
The MANDATE Golf Day raised an incredible $16,143 for prostate cancer research.
A huge thank you to Blair Sleeman from Brown's Plains Hotel and Dave Matthews from Hotel HQ for their efforts in arranging the event.
Special thanks to: Lion, CMBM, Brown-Forman, Agile Security, World Wide Printing, Diageo, Treasury Wines, CUB, Keno, Sun Pork, Reward Hospitality, TA, Asahi for your contributions towards the event.
