PA Giving Day 2021

Wednesday 15 September 2021

Patients will receive better care and vital medical research into serious diseases like cancer will be advanced thanks to $605,683 raised on PA Giving Day on 2 September.

PA Giving Day is the PA Research Foundation's most impactful event of the year which aimed to raise $500,000 for patient support, medical research, and state of the art equipment at the Princess Alexandra Hospital campus.

Honouring the PA's healthcare heroes, the We're all 4 the Heroes campaign surpassed its initial goal in the afternoon on Giving Day, thanks to generous matching donors who allowed for every donation to be multiplied by four.

Forty nine teams comprised of both hospital departments and research groups from the co-located Translational Research Institute (TRI) took the opportunity to raise much needed funds to help patients by calling on their family, friends, and networks to donate directly to their work.

PA Research Foundation Chief Executive Officer Damian Topp was humbled by the way the wider PA Community rallied to make a difference for the more than 300,000 people who turn to the PA for help each year.

"These funds will enable initiatives that lead to better outcomes for patients treated at the PA, helping them to get home to their loved ones sooner," he said.

"Crucial research to find new treatment options for serious diseases like prostate cancer and melanoma, kidney disease, amyloidosis and more are also now a step closer to saving more lives thanks to Giving Day.

"To not only achieve our target but surpass our bonus goal of $600,000 is an outstanding result that simply wouldn't have been possible without our amazing matching donors, passionate PA Community members and committed corporate partners. I can not thank them enough for their generosity and ongoing support."

The best performing teams included the PA Amyloidosis Centre who raised more than $57,000 for their work, the PA Radiation Oncology team who raised over $55,000 to support their patients and the Cancer and Ageing Research Program who raised almost 50,000 for their research work.

The amazing result was achieved through 978 individual donors with donations ranging from as small as just $3 to as big as $10,000.
